Morgan-Keller Construction Receives ABC – Baltimore Metropolitan Chapter Award
Morgan-Keller’s Laurel - Beltsville Senior Activity Center project received an ABC (Associated Builders & Contractors) - Baltimore Metropolitan Chapter Award of Excellence on Thursday, April 19th at the Marriott Waterfront Hotel in Baltimore. The project won a Merit Award in the New Project - $5 - $10 Million Category.
The judging teams represented a cross section of the industry, including architects, owners, and other construction leaders. Projects were judged on the following criteria: budget, challenges, complexity, creativity, positive community impact, project management, references, safety, scheduling, and workmanship.
The Laurel-Beltsville Senior Activity Center is a single-story, low-profile 23,500 SF facility of contemporary design nestled into a wooded six-acre site adjacent to the Laurel Regional Hospital Complex in Laurel, MD. It is owned and operated by The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission and the Center was designed by Waldon Studio Architects.
This state-of-the-art senior activities building is a steel framed structure founded on concrete footings and is enclosed with various materials including large glass curtain walls, corrugated metal siding, EIFS, cultured stone masonry walls, and a multi-level TPO roof. The fully accessible building, designed without stairs to make it easily accessible for seniors with limited mobility, includes a lobby, snack bar, fireplace lounge, and game tables. Additional amenities include fitness, ceramics, exercise, arts and crafts, hobby woodcraft, and billiards rooms; a computer lab; and conference room. The design also includes a great room with a stage, catering kitchen, and an operable wall system that allows the room to be divided into four smaller rooms.
