Morgan-Keller Wins Bid for Booking Facility

Article from the Herald Mail

The Washington County Commissioners on Tuesday accepted a $2.82 million bid from Morgan-Keller Construction to build a central booking facility at the Washington County Detention Center.

The bid from the Frederick, MD based construction company was the lowest of nine bids and was $423,157 below the architect's estimate for the project.

The commissioners voted 4-0 to approve the bid. Commissioner William J. Wivell was absent for the vote.

By reducing the amount of time law enforcement officers spent processing arrests, a central booking facility will keep officers on the street, Washington County Sheriff Douglas W. Mullendore said Tuesday.

The Sheriff's Department budget this year includes money to hire 10 officers to staff the central booking facility.

Construction of the facility is scheduled to take one year.
